Relative clauses

The woman who gave me the flowers: how to construct relative clauses.

by Liz Walter

Teachers call this type ‘defining relative clauses’, and they don’t have commas around them: The woman who gave me the flowers is my neighbour. This is the chair that I bought […]

No y not: cuándo y con qué

Hi guys,

There is no time to lose = There isn't any time to lose

No hice nada = I didn't do anything = I did nothing = No hice "cosa alguna"

Grammar notes and exercises:

No - not // no double negative

Job vs. Work

empleo: job

conseguir trabajo
to get o/or find work

consiguió un trabajo muy bien pagado
he got himself a very well-paid job

lugar: work

está en el trabajo
she's at work

ir al trabajo
to go to work

llámame al trabajo
give me a call at work

actividad, labor: work

su capacidad de trabajo es enorme
he has an enormous capacity for work

the machine does the work of five people

Water ATM

Commentary

In this video we can see a boy that uses a card in a machine similar to -a +an ATM (automatic teller machine) to fill a bottle of water.
This is a project launched by the city government of Delhi in India, to provide clean drinking water to residents.

I think this project is very important because many illnesses could be -avoid +avoided -[with only] +[just by] drinking clean water but this should be done across the country.
Initiatives like this should be made in all countries without access to clean water.

Common mistakes in your writings

These are some notes on the most common mistakes in your writings. I will have linked to them already in my correction comments, but general review is advisable.

a /an

the

much / many

say and tell

also / too

have (got)

Take your time. We're in no hurry, but make sure that you review all these topics as needed. These are the basics!

Resumen del miércoles 21/10/2013
Class summary for Wednesday 21st

Life: vida
To live: vivir
It's my life And it's now or never Cause I ain't gonna live forever"
Here   /hɪər/
Two people: dos personas.
5)     5)  Cuidado al pronunciar:
City   /ˈsɪt.i/
                Center  /ˈsen.tər/
6)     6)  Otra palabra peligrosa es GREAT
Great: genial
Greet: saludar
Recordar el ejemplo: That´s great, mate!
Answer  /ˈɑːn.sər/

 See you on Monday!

Hi dear sister,
I like very much New York, is a magnificient city, when you can, yoy should go. All is likw in the films. I see very things all it impressive. The cars, the streets, the buildings, the parks, the rivers, the people. In Manhattan the streets are very long and broad. There are millions of shops. I was walking on five avenue. The buildings are very tall and are for of side. I also was in central park. I like so much, is a forest into the city. You need one day to see it total.
The following day I went to the Eli Island by boat from there Manhattan, see it wonderfull. I also saw the statue of liberty and I felt a special person for to be there, so it was incredible.

Other day I rised to empire state building. The lift rised very very fast. On the rout you can see all the city. At nightfall, the in the building and the street, all lights turn on and the show is great. It was the best of all trip, is a image for all the life. The next day I went to brokling bridge and the bronx. I also was in China Town. I never have see many chinesse persons together in my life. The last day in New York I went to Metropolitan museum. It take six hours to see it, then I left to buy gifts for all us.

My last days I rented a car so I was two travelling for there. I arrived to Philadelphia. The city I don´t like very much but the trip was interesting. In Philadelphia I visit to the park of Rocky. I riced the stairs running, same that in the film. I also visit to the house of Benjamin Franklin, and the firts street of state united, and the history museum the city.
The worst was fly by plane. It was very long and blurred, for storm in the ocean, I arrived very tired but happy.

Postcard.2

Hi guys¡¡
Today finish my stay of two days in Titulcia. It is a beautiful village of the province of Madrid, 49 km. to the south of the capital, near Cienpozuelos. I will say something to you on the things that have surprised to me more.
The first vision from the litle town when the cross a river Jarama, appears to us on a level one and ascends on a small mountain. You can see it in the photo, it is very nice , isn't it?

Yesterday evening I left to have a stroll in bicycle by a precious Green Route (Vía Verde de RENFE) that there is near Titulcia. Pay attention that beautiful is the flower of fennels that were next to the way.

Today in the morning I have visited the winne cellar of my uncle Pepe, also known like the Pitorro. It does one of best wines of the Community of Madrid. Although the warehouses are dark, you are put quite contented in them. Certain that yes.

Finally, this evening I was in the mountain where prehistoric caves are even conserved, and I approached them. But I did not ascended until them… why? I have already seen them often and to see ewes, dogs, cows and birds painted on rocks… Who is to say has painted them.

I will already tell you many more things about Titulcia.
I wish you merry Christmas and very happy new year in 2012.
Ciao. Little kisses for all, guys.

Postcard.1

Hi guys.
I'm sorry for my delay… I will not put excuses. There my postal go:

Hello mum
I finish returning of our village, La Fuente, arrived the past Wednesday there and I have returned this evening, you do not know I missed to you, mainly. It made a cold terrible, already you know. I visited all those sites by where I walked as a child: the source, the threshing floors, the grapevines, the olive groves, the mountain range San Jorge, the church, the school, the municipal library, the place of the village, the cemetery… People that we know were as always: very cosy, all they wanted to me to invite to eat, to have dinner… They gave many kisses me for you.
I was very impressed the three days. I longed for so much to you that I cried just a little bit… But I was very happy for being there.
My dear mum, I wish you happiest of Christmases. And remembers you that next Monday I will be with you.
A kiss very hard.
Your Antonio son.
